Our favorite RTX 4080-powered monster laptop for $2,300- Yes, I think I will-

We’re big fans of the Lenovo Legion Pro over here at PC Gamer. This one packs an RTX 4080 is just another nod to the notion that there’s absolutely no point in an RTX 4090-powered gaming laptop when an RTX 4080 model can smash games with almost the same veracity.

Right now, you can get the spicy Lenovo Legion Pro 7i for $2,299 at B&H Photo, and we’re fully backing your decision to purchase. That’s $450.99 off the listing price so it’s well worth it.

If you’re questioning exactly how much we love the Legion Pro 7i, consider this is the laptop that actually made our Dave reconsider his affection for his first love, the Razer Blade.

This little 16-incher is one of the most powerful machines we’ve ever tested. Together, that smashing RTX 4080 and Intel i9…

California takes big step in bringing right to repair to Silicon Valley-

Personal electronic devices are a huge part of our daily lives from phones to laptops and beyond. But the unfortunate truth is as these devices get more and more advanced they also tend to become more complicated. Things go wrong a lot, and companies have made it purposefully difficult to repair these things ourselves. These practices often make it easier to buy something new than fix what we have, which while great for a corporation’s bottom line, tends to be pretty awful for the Earth.

That’s why there’s a huge movement fighting for what’s called the right to repair. Consumers are demanding devices be made with repairability in mind, from accessibility to parts to not making it impossible to open a shell without breaking it. This movement has gained increased traction in the US,…

Sins of the Flesh, Cult of the Lamb’s ‘sex update’, is coming out this month-

First, they said Sins of the Flesh wouldn’t be “the sex update”. Then they said, fine, since you weird little freaks seem to want it so bad, if Cult of the Lamb gets 300,000 followers on Twitter before the end of 2023, “we will add sex to the game”. And when that happened with unseemly haste, the developers at Massive Monster stuck to their guns and now the free expansion for their spooky-cute action roguelite management sim is almost here.

Among the things Sins of the Flesh will add is a Mating Tent, as seen in the trailer above. When two cultists love each other very much there’s a chance they’ll hop into the Mating Tent and, one Sims-style all-ages woohoo later, hop back out with an egg. That egg can be hatched to give yourself a new follower who will combine some of their pare…

Elden Ring and God of War- Ragnarok win big at the DICE Awards-

The 2022 DICE Awards were handed out last night, and much of it came down to a slugfest between two predictable behemoths, Elden Ring and God of War: Ragnarok. In the end, it was basically a draw: God of War won seven awards compared to five for Elden Ring, but Elden Ring came away with the gold for Game of the Year.

Tim Schafer of Double Fine Productions was inducted into the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences’ Hall of Fame at the event “for his amazing contributions to the video game industry over his illustrious 30+ year career,” the AIAS said. Schafer apparently biffed his acceptance speech.

Most of the award winners aren’t surprising, given the way 2022 was dominated by Elden Ring and God of War, although I do have to wonder how God of War ended up classified as a…

Survival base-builder Nightingale’s offline mode has arrived—along with celebrities like Joan of Arc and Edgar Allan Poe-

Survival game Nightingale just delivered a feature players have been asking for since the game debuted in early access in February: offline mode. As of today, solo survival fans will no longer be at the whims of servers in order to jump into the fae realms of the gaslamp fantasy base-builder.

Offline mode isn’t the only new feature in Nightingale version 0.3.0. Players will also now be able to build from storage, another highly requested feature that means resources can be used for construction even if they’re not in your inventory. It’s proximity-based and togglable, too, meaning you can earmark containers not to be used in construction if you’re saving resources for a different purpose or don’t want to accidentally use a friend’s stash while building.

There are new monster…

The best 4TB SSD you can buy is on sale right now for the cheapest it’s ever been-

The WD Black SN850X is the best NVMe SSD you can buy right now, and both the 4TB and 2TB models are on sale. Walmart’s got the chunky 4TB drive for the all-time low price of only $341; the 2TB version is just $155 at Newegg. There are many SSD deals daily, but a sale on our favorite NVMe? That’s too good to be true! (It is true, though. Promise.)

The SN850X is pretty much the best Gen 4 SSD on the block, solving a major issue with its impressive predecessor, the SN850, by running so much cooler. Some might say that it’s the SN850X’s ‘X’ factor. I’m sorry.

The 4TB and 2TB SN850X manage a speedy 7,300MB/s read and 6,600MB/s write speed. As for performance, they’re both a great all-around drive that would make a killer upgrade for your storage. For gaming, this means you’…

Telltale delays the Wolf Among Us 2 till at least next year, because if it’s half-baked ‘we’re going to get torn to shreds’-

In news that possibly everyone saw coming, The Wolf Among Us 2 has been delayed beyond this year. In a post to Twitter yesterday evening, the newly-revived (minus most of its original staff) Telltale Games announced that it had “made the difficult decision to delay The Wolf Among Us 2 out of 2023”. But given that it’s been nearly a decade since the last episode of the first series released, I can probably stand to wait a little longer.

Telltale says the delay is about “protecting the health of [its] team,” and in a chat with IGN, studio boss Jamie Ottilie said it was about avoiding crunch. “Burning people out or grinding them down is the wrong thing to do long-term,” said Ottilie, “As an industry, if we’re going to continue to grow, we have to stop it. We just have to stop doing i…

Wait, there are two different games about causing large-scale mayhem in a pretend Ikea–

We learned last year about The Store is Closed, a survival game that trapped players inside an “infinite furniture store” that was quite clearly an Ikea in all but name—creator Jacob Shaw even referred to it as “an infinite Ikea game” on Reddit. The similarity was overt enough that Ikea threatened legal action, and so when we ran across Retail Royale on Steam—”a chaotic Battle Royale inside a furniture store where everything is a weapon”—our first thought was that The Store is Closed had rebranded, retooled, and come back as a battle royale game. But no: Somehow, there are now two distinct, large-scale pretend-Ikea games on the market.

Retail Royale has been in early access for a year, and actually got some attention from streamers including xQc and JFJ not long …

A Stalker board game is coming and of course I want miniatures of the little zone men-

Board game studio Awaken Realms has contracted with GSC Game World to create a board game based on the Stalker universe. The creators are promising to bring the same atmospheric richness to the board game that fans of the videogame expect. It’ll launch as a crowdfunding campaign on Gamefound, a standard for the board game industry, sometime this spring.

A trailer accompanying the announcement is overlaid with the fanatical voice of a man proclaiming his love for The Zone. Composed mostly of small animatic scenes of the Zone itself, the trailer shows a spooky swamp, field of bloody poppies, a bridge being  destroyed in an anomaly detonation, a glowing artifact in a tree, and a strange muddy half-collapsed house.

“I serve her, I care for her, I receive her gifts,” s…

Catapult your Diablo 4 character straight into godhood with Blizzard’s bonus XP event next week-

The latest Diablo 4 season might have the fastest way to earn XP ever, but Blizzard is going to let you make it even faster next week.

On February 6, Diablo 4’s Lunar Awakening event will sprinkle Sanctuary, and its dungeons, with unique Shrines that boost your XP gains by 50% for 30 seconds when you activate them. Local events will also spawn around the open world that will help you earn reputation with a new faction for cosmetics and other rewards.

Lunar Shrines will give you a new version of the regular Shrine buffs. Blast Wave Shrines, for example, will not only periodically explode enemies around your character, they will set off a chain reaction of explosions right after. And Greed Shrines now have a chance to spawn Treasure Goblins as well as buckets of gold.

Watch out Razer, Asus’ switch from plastic to an all-metal unibody gaming laptop design was hidden in plain sight all along-

Asus’ ROG Zephyrus CES 2024 teaser hid something exciting in plain sight, the hint that its new gaming laptops are going to ditch the old plastic chassis and switch to an all-new metal unibody design. And I am most definitely here for that change.

The teaser trailer released last week suffered by being dropped at the same time as another, more rabidly devoured teaser trailer—y’know, the one with guns, bikes, and bikinis—and honestly we skipped over it because all it seemed to say was that there were going to be new ROG laptops coming at CES 2024.

A blind hermit could have probably predicted the same with as much accuracy, however, we’ve now learned there’s more to it. We’ve heard from people classically ‘close to the matter’ that there is going to be a more tangi…

You can’t take it with you, but you can’t leave it for someone else either- Valve says you aren’t allowed to bequeath a Steam account in a will-

First reported by Ars Technica, ResetEra user delete12345 has made an interesting discovery about Steam libraries: we’re not allowed to bequeath them to our loved ones in the event of our untimely passing.

Delete12345 asked Steam Support about the hypothetical scenario, and got a clear, professional, but very disappointing response. “Unfortunately, Steam accounts and games are non-transferable,” the support rep explained. “Steam Support can’t provide someone else with access to the account or merge its access to another account.

“I regret to inform you that your Steam account cannot be transferred via a will.”

Now, I was going to suggest that you can just give your designated heir the Steam login and password without getting lawyers involved—barri…

Kingdom Come- Deliverance 2’s trailer is bawdy, bloody and gives us a siege tease-

Watch On

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is right at the top of my list of games I’m ravenous for, so its appearance at Summer Game Fest has made sitting through Big Geoff’s showcase absolutely worthwhile.

This is our second look at the game, and it’s pretty much got it all: folk getting battered, buddies getting into trouble, good times and bad times, guns, swords and a wee taste of siege warfare.

We already saw some of the new ranged weapons in action in the last trailer, so seeing what we’ll be getting up to when invaders are at the walls was the highlight this time. We’ll be knocking down ladders, dropping rocks on heads, and no doubt getting stuck into some tense duels on the battlements. Even this brief glimpse got me all fired up.

While Kingdom Com…

Watch a latex-clad billionaire punch out poor people in the debut gameplay trailer for Batman- Arkham Shadow-

Watch On

The first-ever gameplay trailer for the upcoming Batman: Arkham Shadow appeared at Gamescom’s Opening Night Live showcase tonight, giving us our first proper look at the upcoming VR take on the adventures of the most therapy-averse billionaire in history.

The new trailer focuses on exploration, dialogue, and of course plenty of fisticuffs, as the world’s greatest detective whomps the living hell out of dozens of flunkies and underlings on his way to ensuring that nothing ever really gets better in the bleak, crumbling metropolis of Gotham City.

“A corrupt system has failed you,” the villainous Rat King (at least, I assume that’s the Rat King) says at one point. “Are you not angry? Fight back!” The man has a point, right? If your life is an endless swamp of fut…
